We CAN change the story of struggling readers and poor graduation rates!
Even when controlled for intelligence and PAST poor performance, a recent study* of fifth graders found that school success and academic achievement were mutually reinforcing. Attention to individual needs provides successful experiences and instills confidence in poor readers, and a positive attitude from teachers and parents has tremendous ripple effects. Encourage hope and confidence. Keep smiling!
