Falling Off the Reading Train

Imagine for a moment…American classrooms full of students who can read their textbooks fluently, with teachers happily educating students in the subjects they enjoy teaching and not worrying about how to adapt the content to large number of students who cannot read at grade level. It CAN happen!

Winter of Discontent

        My biggest daily problem then was that at least half of my students could not read anywhere near grade level, and I had no idea how to teach them to read.

Snow Dancing

The original snowfall did not completely melt for six weeks, so we were able to dance in the hallways for four wonderful weeks. I was much younger then, with almost as much energy as my students. Just enjoying the music, the movement, hardly teaching at all. What a wonderful break Snow Dancing was!
